C. P. Kamboj[1] from Punjabi University (I heard he's involved in Punjabi research work there.), wrote an article about GUCA, which was published in Ajit Magazine (newspaper supplement) today on 10th January 2010. Although GUCA is almost half a decade old now, and is considered obsolete per our plans, since Metamorph[2] was what we looked forward to, still it feels good seeing some exposure to Punjabi computing work which does not have any commercial interests.

There's some reference to PCRC (Punjabi Computing Resource Centre) as well, however, the author missed it when he mentioned Dr. Sukhjinder Singh Sidhu as the controller ("ਸੰਚਾਲਕ") of PCRC. Just for the clarity, PCRC was started by Amanpreet (aalam) Singh (ok confirmed below by Sukh himself) while he was still in Moga. But there's no doubt Sukhjinder contributed a lot when he was active in team.

Oooh, and "Dr." Sukhjinder Sidhu? As far as I know, he's yet to earn any doctorate degree, but close to it since he's a Master already. Wink

It's my instinct to be a critic. Hehehehe. So forgive me at that. Nevertheless, it feels good to get some exposure. Cheers to C. P. Kamboj.

[2] Metamorph was supposed to succeed GUCA. But Sukhjinder Singh (orig dev of GUCA) couldn't complete it due to lack of time.

Gurpartap, I did actually

Gurpartap, I did actually start PCRC, not Amanpreet! Do you not remember all the hard work in creating Saab and getting them to convert to using Unicode properly?

Anyway, Metamorph was nearly there, and it's source code is available under Subversion: https://guca.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/guca

If anyone wants to complete the application, I'd be happy to give them write access Smile

ਓਹ! I never really sat down

ਓਹ! You're alive Wink I never really sat down and tried to trace on how things came up. All I have been interested in is what I can do. Hehe. So there goes my history claim. Tongue

I hope someone to adopt Metamorph. I remember you wanted me to work on it but I never really got interested in writing C++, and more over, writing it for Windows. Preferences grew with me, so I shifted from Qt/Python to Cocoa/Obj C today. I am still interested in working on a cross platform Qt version of Metamorph/GUCA whenever I find time from other project :s. I wonder if you have any outline of the app structure except for the code? Or major differences between Metamorph and GUCA? Some documentation of project state? Maybe, I can at least put another project hanging in the mid of development for Metamorph's company. lol.

Best wishes, and Happy Lohri! Smile

Documentation!?

Documentation!? I have very little of this Smile Although, it's cross platform if you compile it in Mono - it's written in c# (looking at the code now, it's pretty poo to be honest).

Major difference between Metamorph and GUCA? We'll, better mapping convention designed for Gurmukhi, and more importantly it analyses the syllables to convert to unicode, which is much more accurate than doing a linear conversion.
