SCIM on Puppy Linux since past 6 months

Puppy is a wonderful distro. Fast, faster than any other(under 100 MB and runs completely in RAM). The community is vibrant and very productive. SCIM pet packages are available. I have tried my hand on Punjab Typing using the jhelum keyboard. I type my memorizing the keys, and refer to the keyboard JPEG when I get stuck.
My punjabi usage is limited to web pages in Firefox. Firefox runs well on Puppy, even with 5 addons (Zotero, Colorzilla, Firebug, Tiddlysnip and Download Video Helper). Firefox is the only open source browser which displays Sihaari/Bihaari correctly(AFAIK).

ਜੇ ਸਕਿਮ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਫੇਰ ibus (ਨਵਾਂ IM) ਵੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਚੱਲ ਸਕੇਗਾ (ਪੋਰਟ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ)।
ਜੇ ਫਾਇਰਫਾਕਸ 'ਚ ਅੱਖਰ ਚੱਲੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਕੀ ਐਪਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ 'ਚ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਹੋਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਂ ਪੱਪੀ ਲੀਨਕਸ ਕਦੇ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਾਗਾਂ ਟੈਸਟ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ।

windows vista is the best

by pressing a combination of keys that is alt+Shift you can toggle the input language in vista and xp. now punjabi LIP (language interface pack)of MS office is out. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੀਨਕਸ

ਵੀਰ ਜੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ Linux ਬਾਰੇ ਕਾਫੀ ਚਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ Linux ਦੀ ਸੀਡੀ ਜਾਂ ਡੀਵੀਡੀ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਨਾਲ ਦੀ distributions ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਦੱਸੋ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ Linux ਤੇ ਕਮ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਲੋਡ ਪਵੇ ਗਈ ।

my vote..

...was based on the fact that enabling (just the typing actually) punjabi keyboard on vista is a lot more noob friendly. Of course this is where linux is still progressing.. and you are guessing it right that my opinion is biased due to overall intuitiveness of Windows than Ubuntu (I say Ubuntu here because for the kind of Punjabi layouts we prefer aren't available out of box in Ubuntu where you have to download some stuff to get going, unlike Fedora).

i think vista te window xp equaly support karde ne.... main vista lai vote kiti aa because vista is newer then xp and i think its better thank xp as it is under development.
recently main Vista te office da LIP (language interface pack) download kita te sari window punjabi vich ho gai hai... naal latest visual studios wich unicode lai zada support hai. baki gal rahi linux di te main punjabi wich linux kadi use nahi kiti but i will try.

Voted for Vista

My main full-time operating system is Mac Leopard, and Windows XP + Linux on desktop. And honestly, I voted for Windows Vista for the best support for not just Punjabi, but any language to think about (at least Indic ones). And for Punjabi to stay ahead of many, in terms of out-of-box support, in Microsoft's softwares, I would like to thank Sukhjinder Singh, UK for his efforts.
